My mission is all about creating the conditions
for a joyful and purpose-filled life and livelihood.
I founded Fire & Flow in 2021. The pandemic had upended my life and suddenly I realized that all of my creativity and passion in 25 year career in design had been poured into projects at large corporations - I felt I had nothing to show for it. For the previous three years, I had been commuting 2 hours each way to work in an office building where people were so stretched to their limits that they didn’t even greet each other in the hallways. It was unsustainable... both personally and environmentally.
The pandemic allowed me to pause and really consider what I was doing, the trajectory my life was taking and how it affected those I cared for. I reassessed my relationship to all things and looked deeply at what was working and what wasn’t. The key for me was focus. For years I had found it difficult to focus, but I had also been dispersing my life energy into things that were not sustaining me.
Finally I really considered: How could I create a life that works for me and those I care for? What nourishes me so well that it is also enough for others?
Inward Bound
I initiated a phase of deep personal reflection while reengaging my curiosity, reconnecting with causes I am passionate about and reactivating my soul’s true purpose. I began to create a process of centering around what is really important. I found that as long as I stayed centered around what gave me energy: passion, curiosity and purpose-- my fire -- I could maintain a state of flow around that.
It’s not to say that there weren’t challenges, but when I felt myself getting knocked off balance, I focused on what gave me energy and recentered around it. This has enabled me to weather those storms in a way that is both resilient and nourishing.
